Slip & Falls
Slip and fall accidents can be the most traumatic type of injury due to the fact that there is nothing protecting you from contact with the ground. Unlike car accidents, you don't have the luxury of a vehicle with its seatbelt and airbags to protect you. That is why it's very common to have a fracture-type of injury result from a slip and fall.
But slip and fall cases present their own type of difficulty in proving them. You have the burden of showing that the landlord a) had a duty to make sure the premises were safe, or at least warn you if they were not and b) he violated this duty somehow. These cases can be very difficult, and you will need my assistance in proving to the land owner or store owner's insurance company that the owner was at fault.
A common scenario is a slip and fall at a supermarket. It is very important to be aware of what exactly made you fall. You would be surprised at the number of people who come to my office not knowing what it was that made them fall in the first place. I you don't know what it was that made you fall, it is next to impossible to prove to a jury that store owner did something wrong. Take notice of what is on the ground. Is it wet? Are your clothes wet? Make sure you tell the store manager to do a report. If you are injured, call an ambulance. The paramedics will also put in their report the reasons for your fall. The more documentation, the better. Try to take your own picture with the camera on your phone. Try to get the names of any witnesses. All of these tips will allow me to maximize the recovery in your case.
